Our main reading scheme is Oxford Reading Tree.
This is supplemented by books from a number of other reading schemes and real books. All books are placed into book bands to enable children to read a range of books at an appropriate level. Children also have access to Bug Club which provides a selection of books at their level which can be accessed at home.
As well as reading in school it is important that children read regularly at home. Children who read at home every day make very good progress and soon become confident readers.
We expect every child to read at least five times a week. Every week a certificate is given to the infant and junior class that has the highest number of pupils reading at home. Children who read five times a week have the opportunity to win a book.
In KS2 the children use accelerated reader. This helps develop comprehension and vocabulary.
