Year 2

Chinese Writing

The year 2 children enjoyed an afternoon writing their name in Chinese.

Some found the experience tricky while others took to it like a duck to water!

The summer holidays seem to have been a very long time ago and we have achieved so much in such little time. We are all settled into the routines of our day and are looking forward to some exciting events this year. We start our day off with an act of Collective Worship followed by Literacy and Numeracy. We manage to fit in phonics and some mental maths, all before lunch. Our afternoons are normally filled with Reading activities, Handwriting, RE, PE, Science, Music, DT, Art, Geography and History.

Our PE slots are normally on Monday and Wednesday so we will need a PE kit in school (named please).

We try to get the children out to play during the day, even if the weather is not that great, so the children will need to have a coat with them every day. Similarly we encourage our children to lead a healthy lifestyle so they will need a water bottle in school and we will offer them a fruit or vegetable

snack at break time.

This first half term we have been jetting off (virtually) to China and looking at some Chinese traditions, foods, writing and stories. The children will have the opportunity of using chopsticks to try and pick up noodles from a bowl. We celebrated Roald Dahl’s centenary by reading and using The Magic finger. After half term we will be looking at the Great Fire of London and as a result of it, how the Fire Service came about.

We would like the children to read at least five times a week and if they do they will be entered into a draw where they could win a prize. Spellings will come home on Thursday with a piece of homework to be completed and brought into school the following Tuesday. Spelling tests will be on Wednesday.

We will continue to use Bug club and the My Maths websites.

Each term there will be a home learning project for you to work on with your child and I look forward to seeing how ingenious you all can be. The children are always very proud to show each other their creations which are normally the envy of the rest of the school.

Each week children are congratulated on their achievements by being awarded either a Merit or Behaviour certificate. Please continue to look around the town for our RR tokens and send them into school.

Finally, you are most welcome to drop in on Friday afternoons to look at your child’s work or to take a look at the class displays or even just to see what we have been up to.

We look forward to meeting you at our “Meet the teacher”, evenings.

Thank you for your continued support.
