Welcome to Chestnut Class: Year 6
Our class teacher Miss Markham will be on maternity leave for the rest of the year but will be popping in occasionally to see us. In the meantime, Mrs Down will be the Year 6 class teacher, supported by Mrs Selwood, Mrs Juliff and Mrs Mildenhall. When Mrs Down is out of class planning our lessons, Mrs Whalley will be the teacher in class.
During the first half of the summer term we will be revising all that we have learned in preparation for our SATs which will take place in the week beginning 13/05/19. Please ensure you make use of all of the revision materials we will be sending home.
Our topic this term will be Ancient Greece and the children will be learning about the ancient civilisation and the legacy of Greek culture. Please see our curriculum map below which shows what we will be covering in different topics:
I am looking forward to spending this exciting term with Year 6 and thank you for your continued support.
First, I would like to say what a pleasure it has been teaching year six for our first term!
As the new term commences we will begin our new topic; WWII.
We will be continuing to think about how to stay safe on the Internet and use various computing programmes to enhance our learning and develop new skills.
We will of course continue all of the hard work that we have done throughout our time at ACE Primary school in Maths and English, preparing for secondary school and the SATS tests, which take place in May. Please continue to help with the learning of times tables as well as their related division facts and in encouraging the children to read at least 5 times a week. Let us try to maintain the lead for the most children in the raffle each week.
In Year 6 the children are expected to help other children in the school, and we have already chosen our monitors and play-leaders who will be readily available at playtimes and lunchtimes.
Our internet maths programme ‘MyMaths’ seems to be very popular with you all so keep going. You can also access MyMaths through the app, 'Puffin Academy'. Any problems with logging in please let us know. Bug Club has also been updated and new books been allocated.
Children will be given Maths and SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) Homework each week. This will be set on Thursday and needs to be returned on Tuesday. Spellings will be tested on either Thursday prior to the new spelling rule being sent home. Children who struggle to get homework done will have the opportunity to complete it at lunch or join homework club!
The children have already shown me some incredible learning and I really look forward to the rest of the year. If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to come in and see me.
Thank you for your support.
