Welcome to Year 6
Mrs. Scott is the Y6 teacher. Mrs. Juliffe, Mrs Mildenhall and Mrs. Rampton also help us with out learning. Mrs. Martin teaches us French and music.
First of all, I would like to say what a pleasure it has been teaching year six for the past few weeks. We have already started our World War 2 topic and the children are really looking forward to finding out more. We have a number of exciting visits planned as well as our evacuee day where we would love all of the children to dress up. Our art work will focus on drawing skills and using these to produce WW2 themed pictures which I’m sure the children will be proud of.
Later on in the term we aslo hope to do a ‘Make do and Mend’ project – so get collecting all of those items of clothing, material, ribbons and buttons that you no longer need as these will be much appreciated.
We have begun a unit of work on the heart and the circulatory system and the children are finding out more about the way their bodies work. We will be think ingabout how to stay safe on the Internet and use various computing programmes to enhance our learning as well learning new skills.
We will of course continue all of the hard work that we have done throughout our time at CE Primary school in Maths and English, preparing for secondary school and the SATS tests which take place in the week beginning May 8th 2017. Please continue to help with the learning of times tables as well as their related division facts and in enocuraging the children to read at least 5 times a week. Let’s try and maintain the lead for the most children in the raffle each week.
In Year 6 the children are expected to help other children in the school, and we have already chosen our monitors and playleaders who will be readily available at playtimes and lunchtimes.
This year we will continue to find out about Rights and Respect (RR) and we need you all to look out for the RR tokens in the town which will be awarded for showing respect and good manners.
Our internet maths programme ‘MyMaths’ seems to be very popular with you all so keep going. Any problems with logging in please let us know. Bug Club has also been updated and new books been allocated.
Children will be given spellings as well as another piece of homework each week. Homework will be set on Thursday or Friday and needs to be returned on Tuesday. Spellings will be tested on either Thursday or Friday.
I am proud of the number of children who have 100% attendance each week – well done! I hope that even more of you will achieve a 100% attendance certificate at the end of term.
The children have already shown me some incredible work and I really look forward to the rest of the year. If you have any queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to come in and see me. Please feel free to pop in and see your children’s work on a Friday after school – the children really do enjoy showing you what they are proud of!
Thank you for your support.
Mrs Scott, Mrs Rampton, Mrs Juliff and Mrs Mildenhall.
