Being a Church School

As a Church school, our Christian values are at the heart of everything we do. We provide a nurturing, inclusive, and welcoming environment where every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to flourish academically, socially, spiritually, and emotionally.

Our close partnership with the local church, St Mary’s, enriches school life through collective worship, celebrations, and opportunities for reflection. While our Christian ethos guides our work, we warmly welcome children and families of all faiths and none, fostering respect, kindness, and understanding within our diverse community.

We strive to inspire our pupils to develop confidence, compassion, and a sense of responsibility, equipping them to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

What is a Church School?

Collective Worship

Collective Worship is an important part of school life and provides opportunities for our children to come together as a community to reflect, celebrate, and grow spiritually. Rooted in our school values of Love, Courage, and Forgiveness, worship encourages pupils to think deeply about themselves, their relationships with others, and the wider world.

Through stories, prayer, music, reflection, and discussion, children are invited to explore important themes and values, developing their understanding of faith, compassion, and respect. Collective Worship offers a calm and meaningful space for pupils to reflect on their experiences, consider different perspectives, and be inspired to live out our values in their daily lives.

As an inclusive Church school, we welcome and value the contributions of all members of our community, supporting every child on their own spiritual journey.

St Marys Church

We have very strong links to the Church, every term we attend a Collective worship in the Church, led by the vicar. We hold our Harvest, Christmas and Easter services at St Mary’s and invite all parents to attend.

Each Wednesday the vicar or the chaplain leads worship in school.

Prayer Spaces

Prayer Spaces provide a calm, welcoming environment where children can pause, reflect, pray, and explore their thoughts and feelings. They offer opportunities for spiritual growth, encouraging pupils to wonder, ask questions, and consider their place in the world.

Rooted in our Christian ethos, Prayer Spaces support our school values of Love, Courage, and Forgiveness, helping children to reflect on their experiences, relationships, and hopes for the future. Through a range of creative and interactive activities, pupils are invited to engage in quiet reflection, express gratitude, pray for others, or simply take time to be still.

As an inclusive Church school, our Prayer Spaces are open to all children, regardless of faith or belief, providing a safe and respectful space where everyone is encouraged to reflect and develop their own spiritual understanding.

We are very grateful to Michelle, our school chaplain who arranges these prayer spaces each term.

Courageous Advocacy

At our school, we believe that every child has the power to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Courageous Advocacy encourages pupils to speak up for what is right, show compassion for those in need, and take action to create positive change in their community and the wider world.

Inspired by our Christian vision and values of Love, Courage, and Forgiveness, children are encouraged to identify issues they care about and to become confident advocates for justice, equality, and kindness. Through fundraising, community projects, environmental initiatives, and supporting local, national, and global charities, pupils learn that even small actions can have a meaningful impact.

By developing empathy, responsibility, and a sense of service, we empower our children to become thoughtful, courageous individuals who use their voices and actions to help build a fairer and more caring world.

To ensure we, and our community give, inspire and flourish together, we have been and are supportive of a range of charities in our local area, nationally and globally.

Some of these include:

  • Andover Food Bank
  • Children in Need
  • Comic Relief
  • Red Nose Day
