Class Pages

Year R

In Year R, the children have had lots of fun running a hot chocolate stand and making orders for their friends with hot chocolate, marshmallows and chocolate sauce (all pretend!). This was a great way for the children to develop their fine motor skills with pouring and scooping and picking up the marshmallows with tweezers.

The children also rescued some arctic animals from ice and then used the colourful water to engage in small world role play.

We had an autumnal play dough station and some muddy animals to wash as well – we’ve been very busy!

We’ve had great fun learning our phonics this half term and enjoyed pretending to be the teacher and having a go at running phonics lessons ourselves

Year 1

Year 1 has had a fantastic few weeks and is settling in really well. In Maths they have been exploring measure through weighing items, measuring and using water to find out capacity which they really enjoyed.

In English we are still focusing on forming basic sentences with a capital letter and full stop. Some of the children have been challenging themselves to use ‘and’ as a conjunction and also some descriptive language.

In Science the children have been exploring different types of materials and how we classify them by their properties. The children can describe the properties of glass, metal, wood and plastic and identify objects made from these materials within the classroom.

Have a lovely weekend!

Year 2

It was lovely meeting and chatting to many of our parents this week and sharing how the children are getting on in year 2!

With only a week to go before half term, we are coming to the end of our topic 'The Great Fore of London'.

In English, the children have written and published their fore poems and are now learning about non-chronological reports.

In maths we have continued our money topic and have enjoyed 'playing shop' - learning to give change - a foreign concept in this digital age!

We have continued our art unit and braved getting the paints out - the children enjoyed colour mixing to create different shades of reds, yellow and oranges in preparation for our final piece.

Have a great weekend,

The Year 2 Team

Year 3

Year 3 have completed another exciting English learning journey! This week, the children used their persuasive writing skills to write thoughtful letters to a company that still uses palm oil, encouraging them to make more sustainable choices to help protect orangutans and their rainforest habitats. In Maths, we have been exploring mass, length and capacity, developing our measuring and problem-solving skills. In DT, we practised sewing the running stitch in preparation for creating our poison dart frog mascots next week. We are looking forward to putting our new sewing skills into action!

Year 4

Over the last couple of weeks, Year 4 have been busily learning their 6 times table. They should be really good at this now so feel free to give them a little quiz!

We have now completed our mosaics having looked at Roman mosaics as well as the work of the artist Emma Biggs. The children have thoroughly enjoyed designing and making these and focused well to position each and every tile.

We have started to look at the book 'We Travel so Far', learning about animals which migrate and we are getting ready to write, edit and publish our own pages for the book. The children are really excited by this.

In Science, we have been investigating ways to separate different materials and completed our unit with the challenge of separating a mixture of stones, salt, sand, paperclips and water. The children had great fun doing this and were able to discuss and record the processes they went through.

The children have continued to work extremely hard and have made me proud every day. I look forward to what the next half term brings.

Thank you, Year 4.

Year 5

This half term, we have thoroughly enjoyed our Art and PE learning. In Art, the children have completed their fantastic dragon eyes made from clay. They carefully used acrylic paints to decorate their creations, taking their time to add intricate details and make each dragon eye unique. Their artwork is proudly displayed in the corridor alongside their typed dragon stories and a selection of dragon paintings and drawings for visitors to admire. The children are extremely proud of the hard work, creativity, and effort they have put into their displays.

In PE, we have been creating and performing dragon-themed dances inspired by the music from How to Train Your Dragon. Working with partners, the children choreographed dances with a clear beginning, middle, and end, while exploring different levels from low to high. They created sequences using mirroring and following techniques to represent the flight and movement of dragons. It has been wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork, and confidence develop throughout the unit.

Year 6

Year 6 have had a fantastic few weeks, with the highlight being our exciting Greek Day led by Theo. The children immersed themselves in the world of Ancient Greece, beginning the day with a challenging Greek quiz and learning about the fascinating history of the Greek gods. They also explored the differences between life in Sparta and Athens, discussing which city-state they would have preferred to live in and explaining their reasons. During the afternoon, they discovered more about Ancient Greek warfare and the weapons used in battle, handled replica Greek swords, met Theo dressed as a hoplite and learned about the purpose of his armour. The day concluded with the children competing in their own Olympic Games, making it a truly memorable experience.

In English, the children have been showcasing their creativity by inventing their own mythical beasts inspired by Greek mythology. They have carefully considered their creatures’ appearance, habitat, diet and special powers before using their ideas to write detailed information texts. We have been particularly impressed by the ambitious vocabulary and factual writing the children have included in their work.

Elsewhere in the curriculum, Year 6 have been creating Greek-inspired clay sculptures depicting gods and mythical creatures, which are now ready to be painted next week. In PE, the children have been designing their own sports by creating rules, testing their ideas and then teaching their games to others. It has been wonderful to see their imagination, teamwork and leadership skills developing through these activities, and we look forward to seeing the finished outcomes in the coming weeks.
