Hello Birch Class!
I am Miss Mitchell and I am your new year 3 teacher.
I am very excited to meet you all and am looking forward to getting to know all of you. I hope you have a lovely, relaxing summer holiday and cannot wait to hear all of the things you have got up to throughout summer.
When we come back in September, we are focusing on a new exciting topic called ‘under the canopy’. We will be learning exciting facts about the world’s rainforests and exploring the different animals and plants we can find there.
Some of you may already know some facts about the world’s rainforests and this will be an exciting opportunity for you to share some of your facts with the rest of the class.
I have found an exciting song about the rainforest which may give you some clues about what animals you might find there. Why don’t you try and learn the lyrics for September and we can sing the song as a whole-class. When you are watching the song why don’t you try and write down all the animals you can see. If you want an extra challenge try and complete the A-Z list of animals that may live in the rainforests. Do you think you can think of more than 10 animals starting with a letter from A-Z, or even 15?
Please remember to continue reading as often as possible. You could think about reading books which are inspired by the rainforest. You could also write a book review about texts you have enjoyed over the break. Is the book exciting? Which part of the book did you like the best? Did you have a favourite character? Remember to write down the title of the book and the author!
MathsPlease continue to practise your 2s, 5s and 10s timetables. I have attached a video which might help you remember the order of numbers.
Is there a special way that helps you remember them, why not share them with the rest of the class when we come back in September?
Please try and practice your multiplication and division. Remember multiplications is also known as ‘lots of’ or ‘groups of’ and division is known as ‘sharing’. Try and use your knowledge of your 2s, 5s and 10s multiplications to help you practice your multiplication and division. Remember you can use objects to help you get the answer.
Continue to practice what numbers are odd and even, remember odd numbers cannot be shared evenly into groups of two.
Please try and continue practising adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers, remember you can use toys or any objects to help you. Also, you could use this hundred-square to help you.
Remember you also can use topmarks to practise your maths skills and play fun and exciting games.
I am looking forward to seeing what you have learned and practised over the summer holidays!
We will be learning the names of countries with rainforests and looking at climates, wildlife and plant-life across these environments. We will be looking at the valuable resources found in the rainforests and discussing the impact of deforestation of the rainforest’s natural resources.
